This morning when I woke up I just laid in bed for a little while reflecting on this day and all it encompasses. I spent some time in prayer with our RISEN Savior, and this song (which will sound familiar because it's my favorite and I've talked about it before!) were the only words that seemed appropriate to me. These lyrics are amazing:
How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
We've been going through the Easter story in Lincoln's Bible throughout the week and had a big night last night explaining to him what happened on Good Friday. I know He doesn't fully understand, but I also know God will use the planted seeds in His heart as He grows.
Anyway, I would LOVE to hear some of your ideas of how you help your kids understand the Cross! My friend Meredith and I were talking the other day about how we struggle to find ANY correlation between the Easter Bunny and the Cross! Who thought of the Easter Bunny??! I think for us, we will not have an Easter basket in the morning, but maybe do one later that evening or something after we've celebrated Jesus's Resurrection all day?? I LOVE the idea (again from Meredith) of "Resurrection Cookies". Google it. Fun idea. What are yours??
